Andy Warhol is undeniably an LGBTQ+ icon, especially to other creatives. But what goes unknown about Warhol is the story behind many of his pieces. A lot of his work features the male body and male genitalia, and these pieces and other later works of his are a commentary on his experience as a gay man and artist.

In four chapters, Pop Desires: Gay Icon Turned Activist explores Andy Warhol's upbringing and life experiences as a gay Catholic through many examples of homophobia. These experiences are seen in his work, but only in the context of his background. The book focuses on Warhol's obsession with the body, his own and others, and how his seemingly simple pieces have a deep connection to his sexuality, expression, and faith.
